DESCRIPTION:Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a rare motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to speak. Children with CAS often have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say\, but have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. At the Walk for Apraxia\, we gather to celebrate the achievements of our Apraxia Stars\, and to raise funds to support the programs that help our Stars shine. The Walk for Apraxia sustains educational opportunities\, awareness\, financial aid\, support for research\, and much more. By joining the Walk\, you are making our apraxia community tighter\, stronger\, and ready for the road ahead. The Walk includes activities for kids and families\, a ceremony to celebrate Apraxia Stars (children with childhood apraxia of speech) with a medal and certificate\, and a 1-mile walk around the park. The meals we’ll create are shelf-stable\, heart-healthy\, and packed with rice\, vegetables\, soy\, and a vitamin/mineral blend designed to deliver complete nutrition. When you run the Gobble Gallop 5K\, you support our Annual Campaign\, which ensures that all ages can experience the benefits of Y membership\, including health\, fitness and education. In 2024 we were able to give over $401\,571 in financial assistance to our Westside Community. \nThe Hendricks Regional Health YMCA strives to make a difference in the lives of people in our community every day. The Gobble Gallop 5k is our largest fundraising event for our Annual Campaign. This past year\, the donations we received towards our Annual Campaign helped provide over $401\,571 in financial assistance to qualifying Westside families. We were able to provide children with the opportunity to attend preschool\, take swim lessons\, and play in our youth sports leagues. We would never be able to reach that goal without the help of community members like you.
